Ma normalmente la parola \"materiali magnetici\" \u00e8 usata solo per i materiali ferromagnetici (descrizione sotto), tuttavia, i materiali possono essere classificati nelle seguenti categorie basate sulle propriet\u00e0 magnetiche da essi mostrate. I due tipi pi\u00f9 comuni di magnetismo sono il diamagnetismo e il paramagnetismo, che rappresentano la maggior parte della tavola periodica degli elementi a temperatura ambiente. Nei loro non sono presenti dipoli magnetici permanenti. I materiali diamagnetici hanno pochissime o nessuna applicazione nell'ingegneria elettrica.<\/p>\n<p>In un materiale diamagnetico gli atomi non hanno momento magnetico netto quando non \u00e8 applicato alcun campo. Sotto l'influenza di un campo applicato (H) gli elettroni in rotazione precessano e questo movimento, che \u00e8 un tipo di corrente elettrica, produce una magnetizzazione (M) nella direzione opposta a quella del campo applicato. Tutti i materiali hanno un effetto diamagnetico, tuttavia, spesso l'effetto diamagnetico \u00e8 mascherato dal termine paramagnetico o ferromagnetico pi\u00f9 grande. La permeabilit\u00e0 di questi materiali \u00e8 molto molto alta (fino a diverse centinaia o migliaia).<\/p>\n<p>Gli effetti magnetici opposti del moto orbitale degli elettroni e della rotazione degli elettroni non si eliminano a vicenda in un atomo di tale materiale. C'\u00e8 un contributo relativamente grande da parte di ogni atomo che favorisce l'instaurarsi di un campo magnetico interno, in modo che quando il materiale viene posizionato in un campo magnetico, il suo valore aumenta di molte volte rispetto al valore presente nello spazio libero prima che il materiale fosse collocato l\u00ec.<\/p>\n<p>Per scopi di ingegneria elettrica sar\u00e0 sufficiente classificare i materiali come semplicemente materiali ferromagnetici e non ferromagnetici. Quest'ultimi includono materiali con permeabilit\u00e0 relativa praticamente uguale a uno, mentre i primi hanno permeabilit\u00e0 relativa molte volte superiore a uno. I materiali paramagnetici e diamagnetici rientrano nei materiali non ferromagnetici.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.1 Materiali ferromagnetici morbidi<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hanno un'alta permeabilit\u00e0 relativa, bassa forza coercitiva, si magnetizzano e smagnetizzano facilmente e presentano un'isteresi estremamente piccola. I materiali ferromagnetici morbidi sono il ferro e le sue varie leghe con materiali come nichel, cobalto, tungsteno e alluminio. La facilit\u00e0 di magnetizzazione e smagnetizzazione li rende altamente adatti per applicazioni che coinvolgono flussi magnetici variabili come elettromagneti, motori elettrici, generatori, trasformatori, induttori, ricevitori telefonici, rel\u00e8, ecc. Sono inoltre utili per la schermatura magnetica. Le loro propriet\u00e0 possono essere notevolmente migliorate attraverso una lavorazione accurata e mediante riscaldamento e lento ricottura per ottenere un alto grado di purezza cristallina. Il grande momento magnetico a temperatura ambiente rende i materiali ferromagnetici morbidi estremamente utili per circuiti magnetici, ma i ferromagnetici sono ottimi conduttori e subiscono perdite di energia dovute alle correnti parassite generate al loro interno. Questa perdita \u00e8 chiamata perdita residua magnetica e dipende esclusivamente dalla frequenza della variazione della densit\u00e0 di flusso e non dalla sua intensit\u00e0.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.2 Materiali ferromagnetici duri<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hanno una permeabilit\u00e0 relativamente bassa e una forza coercitiva molto elevata. Sono difficili da magnetizzare e smagnetizzare. I materiali ferromagnetici duri tipici includono acciaio al cobalto e varie leghe ferromagnetiche di cobalto, alluminio e nichel. Mantengono una percentuale elevata della loro magnetizzazione e presentano perdite di isteresi relativamente alte. Sono costituite da particelle estremamente fini di un materiale ferromagnetico con elevata permeabilit\u00e0 e sono tenute insieme da una resina legante. La magnetizzazione prodotta nelle ferriti \u00e8 sufficientemente elevata da avere valore commerciale, ma la loro saturazione magnetica non \u00e8 alta come quella dei materiali ferromagnetici. Come nel caso dei ferromagnetici, le ferriti possono essere ferriti morbide o dure.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.1 Ferriti Morbide<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I magneti in ceramica, chiamati anche ceramiche ferromagnetiche, sono realizzati con un ossido di ferro, Fe2O3, con uno o pi\u00f9 ossidi divalenti come NiO, MnO o ZnO. Questi magneti presentano una curva di isteresi quadrata e un'alta resistenza e smagnetizzazione sono apprezzati per magneti destinati a macchine di calcolo, dove si desidera una resistenza elevata. Il grande vantaggio delle ferriti \u00e8 la loro alta resistivit\u00e0. I magneti commerciali hanno una resistivit\u00e0 fino a 10^9 ohm-cm. Le correnti parassite generate da campi alternati sono quindi ridotte al minimo, e l'ambito di applicazione di questi materiali magnetici si estende alle alte frequenze, anche alle microonde. Le ferriti sono realizzate con cura mescolando ossidi in polvere, compattando e sinterizzando a temperature elevate. I trasformatori ad alta frequenza in televisori e ricevitori a modulazione di frequenza sono quasi sempre realizzati con nuclei in ferrite.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.2 Ferriti Duri<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Questi sono materiali magnetici permanenti in ceramica.
